A 23-year-old Vancouver woman has been charged with second-degree murder in the slaying of a man near Station Street and National Avenue Friday morning.

Vancouver Police say accused killer Sadie Taniskishayinew didn’t know her alleged victim – a 31-year old man who had just left a rooming house after a dispute.

She was remanded in custody until her next court appearance Nov. 10th.

Const. Brian Montague said in a release that the victim’s name won’t be released until his family has been notified.

Officers were called to the area about 3:30 a.m. Nov. 6th.

“When officers arrived they found an unconscious man lying on the ground covered in blood. He was rushed to hospital, but did not survive his injuries,” Montague said.

“Police took several witnesses and a person of interest into custody shortly after the body was discovered and were able to piece together the series of events leading up to the man’s death.”

He said the victim was involved in a dispute with several individuals at a nearby rooming house.

“He left the building followed by the suspect and was attacked on the street shortly after,” Montague said. “The suspect and victim were not previously known to each other and the attack appears to have been unprovoked. The accused was not injured.”
